Description
This publication contains essays and studies of the landscape and architecture of Montagu; one of the best-preserved mid-19th century towns in the Western Cape which contains many interesting buildings dating from 1850 onwards. The study is based on field work carried out between 1981 and 1990 and on research in the Cape Archives, the South African Library, the Johannesburg Public Library, the Africana Library and the African Studies Library of the University of Cape Town.
As an added bonus, we include the booklet, MONTAGU HISTORIC HOMES 1850 -2000, which contains the original research by Esther Hofmeyr and which has now been revised and updated by Don Woodford.
